pooldv texas pool thread

Re: pooldv pool thread

HA!!! I was out since last Fall, but see you finally got the heat pump in use :) Still loving mine. I wish I also had solar, but the "Little Heater that Could" does just fine within my expectations of only preventing overnight heat loss during the dirt cheap electric rates after just a 2-3 day run to get the pool up to swim temps.

Re: pooldv pool thread

Here's how it all works.

Pump runs on its own built in timer. When heating, it runs at 1100 rpm from 8a to 10p and uses 150 watts. When cooling it runs 10p to 8a. When the trees are throwing lots of stuff in the pool it runs 24x7 for lots of skimming.

SWG runs on its own Intermatic timer set to run well inside the pump run window. I think it is on 10a to 6p right now at 60%.

The Solartouch controls solar, when solar heat is available it ramps the pump to 1950 rpm and opens the solar valve. It is set to heat to 90, made it there today for the first time. When solar shuts off it puts the pump back to 1100 rpm and the pump shuts off at 10p.

The heat pump runs on its own built in timer and thermostat. It is usually set to run 10a or noon to 6p or 8p and heat to 85-87. The heat pump is the most tweaked item because we want to heat with solar heat it as much as possible. It is often turned off unless there is a cool front or rain or if the pools cools off overeaction a few days then I'll turn it back on. Or if I'm nervous about just solar having it warm enough by the weekend. Which is how the pool ended up at 90 today.

There is more a few posts back about heating the pool and schedules.

Re: pooldv pool thread

There are some pics of the equipment up toward the front. PB installed a dual Intermatic timer, one for booster pump and the other for SWG/intelliflo. I moved the Intelliflo to continuous power and use one timer for SWG and one for booster pump. Now with Gilligan the robot cleaner the booster pump is permanently off. Someday I need to remove that pump and tie the plumbing together. Probably a few days after it starts leaking. :-D

I installed the solar panels in the fall of 2012, the Solartouch in spring 2014, solar cover in spring 2016 and the heat pump in fall 2016. Now my pool is HOT!

Dude you were so close to Jacksonville, should have stopped by for a swim:cheers:
For real! Google says I could ride a bike there in 26 hours! :)

Ok, it's at your local airport, ready to go.
You miss your plane yet? I had my guy go get it and park it in my back yard.

Ok, I finally succumbed to peer pressure from the PFC people. That would be Pleated Filter Club folks who shall remain nameless, like Matt, killer95stang, Denise, etc. :)

I must admit that it does a better job. But, it is quite a bit harder to clean. My clean time went from 2 minutes to 4 minutes, maybe even 5. So, we're adding serious minutes to my pool cleaning time. Like 6 or 9 minutes a week! Not sure I've got that kinda time. :)

We've got lots of trees and they put little twigs and leaves in the pool which are easily hosed out of the mesh filter and get a little stuck in the mesh filter. The pleated filters are easy to clean otherwise. The material is tough and seems like it will hold up well.

Just when I think and say that my pool can't get any cleaner or clearer it does! Like magic!
