pooldv texas pool thread

Re: pooldv pool thread

I'm with you pooldv. I've been using the pleated filter for a few weeks and decided to try the less fine filters. Definitly easier to clean, and I think performance is better since the pleats dont get blocked as much. I'll let my cartridge filter polish the water.

Awwww, what a handsome fella! Please don't put him in the smoker!

Negative on the pleats, huh? I love my pleated filters. There's just an extra sparkle in the water after Rosie cleans with her pleats on! Maybe it's a girl thing?

Well, he (or she....honestly who can tell??) is cold blooded so I bet the extra warmth from a pork butt feels good. Plus, someone's gotta man those controls on the CyberQ.

As for the fine filters....really?? How much time could it possibly take to squirt them clean with a hose? I do it in about 30-60sec....and I take my cleaner out of the pool every time. To each his own I suppose....

Re: pooldv pool thread

I have these little bitty cedar elm leaves, 1/4"-3/8", and skinny twigs that get all jammed into the pleats. I have to take the filters out of the basket and then hose them from the outside and then hose them on the inside and then hose them in each pleat with a jet and then separate some of the pleats and hose them again. No and then. Mesh filter less than 30 second hose out and twigs and leaves are gone. I do agree that the pool does seem a bit cleaner. I'll probably do it every week or two. Or when the cedar elms aren't dropping hundreds of leaves in the pool.

Re: pooldv pool thread

You're now seeing why I also bought the mesh "liner" bottomless basket from the higher S's, A's, etc. That keeps the small branch pieces, leaflets, etc. out of the pleats. They hose right of the mesh liner before getting trapped in the pleats. Then I do still rinse out the pleated but it's easier (though same total time as you see now I expect). My real reasoning for using the pleated is that I essentially get my plaster decay particles trapped by the pleated filters. My plain plaster is working on it's 5th season and I can see in 10-15 years it may be ready to do something. Or earlier if I want to enjoy Aquabright and be able to use my current plaster as the base.

Previously with my pressure side cleaner, it wouldn't cover the pool well or pick up well. So when I had a pool party there would be some cloudiness afterwards, regardless of chemistry management. I think that was just the loose plaster granules being temporarily suspended. Now with Pleated Earl, I don't see that phenomenon. I run him about once a week and can see the grit in the pleats.

Great vaca destination!

+1

Integrated coarse/fine basket is the way to go!!!

Re: pooldv pool thread

Sadly he has a Primo....but we don't hold it against him....

Haha. Still better than my old Akorn I sold. Bought the Kamado Joe at Costco recently. Once of these new fangled pid controllers would make a long grill/smoke session a lot easier. Not complaining. Looks like Auber Instruments has a $150 pid with blower in the $150 range.

You have any pics or threads of your grilling setup pooldv?

Agreed, PID is very useful for controlled heat. The CyberQ has the added feature of built in WiFi so you can keep an eye on the smoker from anywhere in the world....

Re: pooldv pool thread

LOL at Pleated Earl. I might need to steal 40 bucks from one of my kids and get the insert.

CyberQ Wi-Fi is the best thing ever invented. I think it was 500 bucks when I bought 5ish years ago. Yep, can log in and control the smoker from anywhere. It also has ramp and hold feature so meat is never over cooked. I use some Auber Instruments stuff for my wood stoves. It is good stuff. CyberQ is better.

Primo XL! Best smoker!
Here are a couple of posts in the BBQ thread, there are more.

Re: pooldv pool thread

Well, we had a few days in a row with the pool being too hot. We were starting to push up to 92-93 every afternoon. Solar was heating the pool to 85 every morning if it wasn't there already. At 10:30am yesterday the temp was 89 and by 11 it was 90. So, yesterday it was time to flip everything from daytime running to nighttime running and turn on solar cooling set to cool to 86. Pump is now set to run at 1100 rpm from 7p to 8a. SWG is set to run from 8p to 6a.

Last night the pool was 93 at 7ish and 92 at 9ish when we got out. This morning at 10a pool was 87. I probably need to lower the cool temp from 86 to 85. We'll see what the temp is this afternoon/evening. I'm hoping it tops out at 91.

Re: pooldv pool thread

Man I'm so jealous, I can't get my pool over 85-86. I have been strongly considering getting solar even though I just paid for a heater.
I do know one thing, I will be the only person in the desert running my heater in the day time with 115 degree temperatures lol
