Time to clean my hot tub. I am going to order some Ahh Some but was wondering about adding vinegar for a few days while I wait for it. Is this a good idea or should I just use the Ahh Some? I have seen different opinions on vinegar, could it damage anything? I have a Sundance ~400 gallon Altimar. Also, how many treatments of Ahh Some are usually needed? I have always kept the water clean but after seeing a few videos, I am sure I will be unimpressed on what I will find. It is 5 yrs old and only has had water changes, never cleaned with a product like Ahh Some. Any advice?

Why vinegar?? Do you have scale in the tub??

Just follow their recommended procedure for a tub clean. Do NOT use more than the recommended application rate. I'm sure you'll be impressed with the goop that comes out of the pipes.

Do you have a shopvac or air compressor you can blow the lines out with?

no scale.....I have both a shop vac and a AC. How exactly do I blow the lines out? From the inside of the tub? Also do I do this with the cleaner / water in the tub or after it is empty? I am novice at this (Obviously)

After you clean the tub with Ahh-some, drain it and wash it down. Then use the you shopvac and AC to suck water out of whatever jets you can reach. Don't go too crazy with the AC, just try to blow out the boogers. Rinse the tub some more, refill, balance and soak.

If you feel like the tub can use two rounds of Ahh-some, that's up to you. Just know that residual Ahh-some left behind will make the tub a little foamy afterwards. Keep your chlorine elevated until the foaming subsides.

Matt, so after it is drained and I use my shop vac to suck up all the standing water and from the jets, do I simply blow into the jets from the inside of the tub? This will force air out of the other jets? Just trying to be sure I understand. Not removing anything from inside the shell..........thanks again.......

Pretty much.

If you were willing to mess around with I suppose one could try to access the water pump and see if there's a way to pressurize the return side so that all jets get blown out but that seems like a lot of work. The Ahh-some is going to dislodge any crud in the pipes so simply running the cleaning process should do 99% of the job. Blowing out the pipes and sucking up any remaining water is just a way to minimize the amount of treated water left in the tub when you refill it. This way, you reduce any post-cleaning foaminess that might occur. Chlorine will certainly break it down over time, but anything you can do to speed the process along helps.

Some people with ample water supplies have been know to do a fill and flush run after Ahh-some and then dump that water too. So it's like doing two refills. That's up to you of course.

Thanks, I got it.. (finally) LOL

I do have a well so I might do it twice depending on how bad it looks. I am a bit worried since it is 5 yrs+ old, although I have been weird about keeping water balanced and clear. Still lots of grandkids and suntan lotion ect........ I will skip on vinegar as I now understand for scale which I have none. Thanks again

You're welcome. Don't forget to add lots of floc, clarifier and minerals when you're done and then rely on magic pipe fairies to keep it all clean :laughblue:

(Joking...obviously you shouldn't add floc and clarifier at the same time...duh!)

I will tell you how I do it - and it has work well!

My story is on here from last Labor Day and the headache I had using SeaKlear Purge. I also use the bleach / Dichlor method which works great!:

I went though a very bad purge / cleaning using SeaKlear for 3-1/2 years. Wound up with some very yellow / green water on a refill. Used Ahh-Some about 8 times before it was all flushed out. Crystal clear water now. I usually put the Ahh-Some in the night before, let it soak overnight running the pumps and air. Drain it after about 12 hours and then I refill it completely and add about 20ppm of bleach. This will help purge the lines and add a sanitizer as well. I then dump that and refill and balance! I also use 2oz of Ahh-Some maintenance dose every seven days - (2oz of Ahh-Some gel in a gallon water). According to Jerry, the developer, after many phone calls with him regarding this product and my issues, he told me how to make it and by adding this, it does micro-purges and keeps the lines clean.

My tub has never been clearer!

Thank you Scott, hopefully I can get this done in a couple cleanings. I should receive my Ah Some tomorrow.

So it is safe to add Ahh Some and still use the hot tub? 2 Oz every seven days seems awfully excessive??

I think the previous post was describing how to make a maintenance solution by diluting 2oz of the product in 1 gallon of water and then simply adding 2oz of that "maintenance solution" every 7 days.

Can you tell us more about the Ahh some maintenance dosing? I am about to do my first Ahh some purge.

10-4, thx for clarifying.

Basically what Gerry told me was that mixing 2oz of Ahh-Some gel in a gallon of water creates a diluted version of Ahh-Some. By adding about 2oz (depending on size of tub - you want the bubbles to dissipate after about 20 seconds of turning off your jets). I have a 340 gallon tub and use 2oz. This will help keep your lines cleaned out and prevent build up.

I'm right in the middle of this now, I'm getting ready to drain my tub. Question is do I drain it and then wipe everything down or is it OK to rinse everything as it's draining?

Been going for over 30 minutes, probably going to drain soon, if somebody sees this who knows, I would be curious to know if I can wipe it down as it's draining and flush the debris out or if it needs to be wiped off with a rag. I will definitely wipe the main water line down with a rag I'm hoping to rinse the rest as it drains if that's the right thing to do.
