Sonos!!!

I did check with Sonos support....which by the way is very fast to respond! They said there is no issues with this. The only issue is using different generations for stereo sound for something like a surround sound system. But everything else should work as expected.

Play-fi is more an alternative
as is Denon HEOS
yamaha music cast.

Price is a major concern, and for the amp (or any of their products) it's way to much for what you get. Sonos does make it dead simple but they seem to have stagnated on development and innovation.

Personally I hope Plex builds something for the same.

Its rs be too late way for amazon to add this function w Alexa products (dot echo etc)

Whoa, way more pages. Too much so I give up.

Just purchased the new Bose Revolve Plus, and this speaker rocks! Totally solved a situation, wanted a Sonos like solution for outdoors and it delivers. Bluetooth enabled, 360 degrees that holds a 16 hours charge and is water resistant. Plays from your mobile device, love it!

I ended up selling my brand new Sonos as I couldn't get it to work with any receivers (either my 5 yo Pioneer or my brand new Denon). The Sonos amp wasn't powerful enough for my outdoor speakers. The good news is that my new Denon was on sale at Best Buy and it streams flawlessly on its own, so I sold the Sonos. The Denon app on my phone allows me to have full control including turning it on and off which is nice.

I'm still trying to sell my Pioneer receiver as I don't need it. I would work great for a surround sound system, but I already have an indoor system.

So............what speakers are you driving with the Denon?

I have two TIC G3's 8 ohm amusement park type 360 degree speakers that are over 100 foot from the receiver. They get partially buried in the ground. My receiver is inside my living room with wires running outside around the pool.

I have two Yamaha 150 speakers 6 ohm that are under the eaves of the deck.

What was the issue with getting the Sonos to work with your receivers? Don't you just plug the Sonos audio output (digital optical/coax or analog left/right) into your receiver and go? I have a Pioneer VSX-D307 receiver that I'm wondering if it will work with the Sonos Connect. What Denon amp did you get, the HEOS Amp? Is it compatible with Amazon Music?

Ive just bought the following set up (work to commence this weekend)

Sonos connect amp and then wiring two bose freespace 51 and two polk atrium 6 speakers to it. Anyone have a similar set up or advice?

also, can someone confirm that I can hook the TV up to the sonos connect amp and play through the speakers. Pretty sure my wife will kill me if I spend any more $$$ on this project.

I have an almost identical setup, except that there's also another dozen Sonos devices around my home. Love my Sonos.

Anyway, a Connect:Amp with those Freespaces will sound incredible! And yes - just hookup the output on your TV to the input on the Sonos, and you're good to go. I did exactly that the other night for the Mayweather fight - watched it in the outdoor fireplace TV. Piped the audio out from the TV into Sonos so the folks over by the pool etc could hear it too. Worked tremendously well.

For the wiring, I ran Cat6 cable from the TV back to the Sonos, but put a Balun on each end to run audio over that. Worked great. Here are the baluns I used; the headphone plug end to the TV, and the RCA plugs into the Sonos.

Thanks for this thread guys. Been looking for an Receiver to add to the new pool area and did some heavy digging. Very disappointed though:

Sonos Amp - Does not support AirPlay. No FM Receiver.
Bose SA-5 - Does not support AirPlay but added Bluetooth. No FM Receiver.

Both of them want you to get into their “world” and App. Very disappointing especially with Bose considering all their older products supported AirPlay just fine. Their forums are rife with very annoyed users about them dropping AirPlay from newer devices.

Guess now I’m back to looking at Receivers from Denon, Yamaha etc.

Alexa finally integrated into the "original" line of Sonos speakers---------to a degree. Can't imagine that they didn't immediately partner with Spotify so I can crank my own playlists from there. They say in development though. I was in fear they wouldn't make the new Alexa integration backwardly compatible since hey released the new 8.0 software at the same time of launching the new line of Sonos One.

Me: "Alexa, play TV in the kitchen"
Alexa: "Shuffling songs by artist Teavee in the kitchen" (she does. I have no idea who Teavee is, but I didn't want to find out)
Me: "Alexa, stop"
Alexa: apparently reading a text or checking Twitter feeds...
Me: "ALEXA, STOP PLAYING MUSIC"
Alexa: "Music is playing on several devices. Which ones do you want?"
Me: "Kitchen!"
Alexa: watches kitten videos on youtube, sends a text to Google Home mocking me.
Google Home: "I know, right?"
Me: "ALEXA, STOP PLAYING MUSIC IN THE KITCHEN"
Alexa: music in kitchen stops. It's playing in the living room. Who mentioned living room??
Me: "Alexa, stop playing all music"
Alexa: "Music is playing on several devices. Which one do you want?"
Me: "No it's not!"
Me: open Sonos app, de-select LIVING ROOM, select kitchen to play TV source
Me: sigh.

This hasn't gotten any better. I'm adapting to the deficiencies in the Sonos / Alexa integration, but it's almost not worth the bother. I say "Alexa, play whatever in the kitchen", knowing full well that it will play throughout the house.

Yesterday I asked her to stop playing music, but she back-talked me because I had used the Sonos app to play it.
