Plans hot Off the press!

bp,

One of the important things that needs to be decided, that is often overlooked is "how do you plan to chlorinate your pool?"

It is important to know because it can effect price and the type of decking and coping your might want.

Just as important, you need to be prepared to tell your pool builder that you don't want any of the "magic" stuff that does not work and just adds to the cost. Things like UV systems, Ozone systems, or Mineral Systems.

And.. be prepared to open wide.. your wallet that is... :p

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

Thanks Jim!

After lurking on the board for the past year or so - I have long been sold on SWG. I know it is suggested to oversize - will the IC60 cover it you think?

bp,

We normally recommend a SWCG that is 2 x the pool volume, which would be 80K, but the 60K IC60 is as big as residential units go.

It should work fine, but you might have to run the cell at a higher percentage, and for a longer period of time, in the middle of the Arizona summer.

This would mean that a variable speed pump would be a great advantage in keeping the electrical costs down.

It would also be important to keep your CYA level up at 80 ppm.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks Jim -

Am I correct in assuming that that would reduce the lifespan of my SWG cell? If so would it be a LOT or just a bit?

bp,

Really no way to tell as each pool is different, as to how much chlorine a pool uses each day.

My gut says 20% reduction in life span, but that is just a WAG...

One thing to do is keep your CYA at the 80 or even 90 ppm since you are in Arizona..

Thanks,

Jim R.
