Bought a foreclosure that included a 33,000 gallon, p.i.t.a., frog hatchery

Nope, I rarely trust anything that is not specific to pools. (aside from bleach of course) I kinda gave up on the d.e. in the filter idea about a week ago anyway. I'm starting to be able to see some of the deep end of the pool now and everything seems to be going well. I don't really have the time to babysit the pressure gauge because I have a boatload of other things going on right now with the house and the pregnant wife so if it ain't broke I'm not going to fix it. Thanks for the quick response tho!

Almost there. Had to cut back on the pump run time due to a $390 electric bill, I know it's against the TFP suggested method, but a pool is no good to me if I can't pay the mortgage. Right now I'm running about 10 hours then off for an entire day sometimes a little over, and vacuum immediately upon start up. Seems to be beneficial for me right now as everything drops tothe bottom quite well. Sorry for the let down TFPers, but at the end of the day I gotta do what I can afford to do. Hopefully I'll have it clear before closing time, and I'll keep posting my progress as much as possible

I've got a 1.5 hp pump, and a very pregnant wife at home all summer. It's been quite hot this year so the old air conditioner has been running non stop in addition to the window unit upstairs and the dehumidifier in the basement. Plus all the other appliances and gizmos in the house. I wasn't expecting it either, but stuff happens.

ditto! You beat my bill by $2.

Honestly, I was fearing 4 figures. If you listen carefully, you might be able to hear my house buzzing and humming...

I bought an extra set of trippers for my old-fashioned Intermatic timer. I set it to run apx 4 hours on and 4 off. I think I'll soon back that down even more, but I want the pump to run regularly. I have just enough OCD that I can't stand to walk by the pool and see debris floating.

Oh yeah... it hurt. Especially with a baby right around the corner and the wife not working all summer and not going back till late oct.. Luckily we had a little bit of money stashed away, so we'll make it through, just can't do that again or we may not be so lucky. Anyone need any remodeling work done? Haha just kidding (but seriously, will work for beer)

The pump definitely contributed but in AC is also major contributor to high electric bill, watch out for that too. VS pump is good money saver besides other things, will pay itself in 6-8 months in electrical savings, just keep this in mind.

Oh, I know what the culprit was. It's just hard to argue with a pregnant woman about what gets turned off. Clearly the pump to the pool she can't use gets the axe way before the ac unit on 85-90 degree days. In no way am I putting the blame on the pump, just noting that it is getting less use to try and save a bit of money.

when you get out of the woods invest in VS pump, it will eliminate this dilemma for good :)

Well the baby came sunday!! Everyone is healthy and well. The pool fell to the bottom of my priorities list the past couple weeks and sat stagnant, much to my surprise, when I looked at it yesterday I could see the entire bottom. The water is a very translucent shade of green and I can see every little detail and imperfection in the liner. So my thoughts now are to do my best to keep the algae from creating a swamp, and vacuum everything I can possibly get out of there. I really don't forsee myself being able to use it this year but it'll be a blessing to not have to fight with it next season.
