TF100 Newbie and Test Results

Sorry...I've been out of town but my numbers are still the same as they have been.

I'm thinking I need to make a fountain for the pool, water temp has been staying at around 94 during the day...not refreshing at all.

Seriously thinking about putting in a DIY fountain to provide a little temp relief.

@MarianParoo, we have a bat but I haven't seem it near the pool, just flying above it.

It will help SO much. Run it at night time to bring the temp down even more! Just remember that it will push your PH up. No big deal since you know to test and use Pool Math to know how much MA to add.

Got my parts list together and if I have time I'll build it this weekend. Thanks for the tip about running it at night.

This is a nice one: Skippy's New Fountain

There's some others linked in this article, but I noticed some are out-of-date: Pool School - Lower Total Alkalinity

I'll check those links out, thanks needsjet!!

Excellent point about running it at night, Kim!

:handwave:

My numbers from last night:

Ph - 7.5
FC - 6.5
CYA - 50
CC - 0
TA - 110

Having a little bit of an issue here, need some help.

Had another big rain yesterday afternoon, went out to check on things and the PSI on my pump is reading 2psi. I backwashed some water out of the pool then put the pump on rinse for a few minutes then went back to filter and it's still 2 psi. What could be causing this?

Okay lets trace this down......did a lot of stuff get in the pool with the rain? leaves, twigs, pine straw, etc.

Oh wait! Lets turn the pump off and see if the gauge drops to zero. Start at the simple and move to harder. If it drops to zero then it should be working but one more thing you can do is hold your hand over the skimmer hole in side it and see if you pressure changes with that.

Let me know what you find messing with the gauge.

Here's what I know and what I have done to troubleshoot the problem.

Turn off pump, gauge goes to 0
Turn on pump, gauge barely makes it to 2
Nothing in skimmer basket and nothing in pump filter basket
There were a few little pieces of stuff in the impeller that I cleaned out.
Took off all the pipes and there were no clogs
Changed to each position on the multi port valve and no pressure change on gauge. Pump was turned off before I made each change
The flow out of the pipe for backwash, bypass to waste were like normal but no change on the gauge.
Set it to bypass to pool, no change on gauge.
The skimmer has good suction and with my hand over the hole the gauge didn't move much...a psi or 2

I'm starting to think that my gauge is bad as the water coming out of the return felt closer to what it normally does but still not as strong as it was the other day. Maybe it doesn't feel as strong because there is a lot more water in the pool???

For me the gauges are cheap enough I would start there. Try to find the fluid filled ones. The link in my siggy has them.

If your returns is pushing good water and everything else checks ou (good job trying all what you have already).........start simple........new gauge.

Sorry for the delay in reporting, was waiting on my new pressure gauge to arrive.

**update**

Put the new gauge on and it also shows 0 psi.

I have no air leaks anywhere as I've checked every hose and connection.

Right now I have no clue what is wrong. Could it be the multi-port valve, do I need to take it off and look at it?

Could something be clogging the sand filter or the valve head? I backwashed and rinsed last night but there was now change in psi.

If nothing else I would pop the top and see if there is something going wrong inside. That IS a puzzle!

Do you still have a good flow/pressure when you put your hand in front of the return?

Have you double-checked the impeller? Have you tried deep cleaning your filter?

Deep Cleaning a Sand Filter

What was your normal clean filter pressure?

The flow out of the return is what I would say is like putting a hose in the water and turning your faucet on a quarter of the way.

Nothing in the impeller, rechecked and it seems like the suction pressure has dropped. There were a couple of leaves in front of the skimmer door this morning and normally it would of pulled those right into the basked but they didn't even get past the door.

normal clean pressure is 12 psi.

Looks like tomorrow afternoon I'm going to take the valve head off. Could something have gotten inside of the valve head and clogged it up?
