Hi Guybrush3pwood,
Just for a little encouragement, I bought a house with a pool that was neglected for several years. When I started I got a very good education, the tuition for that education was over a thousand dollars. What I learned was do not trust pool stores. (although one pool store that also built pools was pretty good in coming out and explaining my equipment to me and how the plumbing worked) but another guy came out and told me I broken pipes underground and I needed to get a backhoe in and dig up concrete. In the end from reading this site and how things really worked I determined I needed a spider gasket and I had broken laterals in the filter, fixed them for about $130, a week later by following this method I had clear water and was swimming. So just because you call in an outside company you have no guarantee unless you have it in writing. I do feel you pain though, I am also very impatient and want it all yesterday and came close to bulldozing the pool in. The fact that you wife does not want it does not help I am sure. But if you methodically work through and try to understand what you are being told to do, you will get it. you have had a rough time with the CYA, and from what I have read believe there was either an error on initial reading or later and that has caused a lot of confusion. Also, I would be sure to try and get out all the junk on bottom, while you are waiting as this will speed process. I believe the advice you are getting is solid and I know Kimkats and Texas splash are very knowledgeable. By the way do you have well water to fill the pool or from the city?
