Friends telling me it looked odd. To prove their point, one thing they did was try to open the on-board controller cover and couldn't (just 3" before hitting pipe). A few other notes.

Given the footprint, I say it looks just fine. You can get to the pump and filter easily. There is no right or wrong way but an easily accessible way and one that makes it hard to access.

I missed that when I looked at it. That was an oversight by the installer for sure. Easily fixed with just bringing the pipe to the filter up higher.

I don`t see any sign of purple primer, just grey glue, neatly done, but usually you get a bit messy with the primer and that will show.
Give the filter a quarter turn counter clockwise, two or three couplings, some pipe and a 90 should do it for fittings.
