Taylor K-1730. But you wouldn’t have hair staining without copper, so testing is kind of pointless.

White Stuff coming out of jets when new heater turns on

Welcome to TFP! Cloudy looking or actual particles? Cloudy water is tiny hydrogen gas bubbles from the SWCG. Warmer water allows the SWCG to work or work better. Most shutoff somewhere between 50 and 60. You can verify by shutting the SWCG off while the heater is running. If it’s particles...

    Baquacil cloudy pool 2 weeks

Welcome to TFP! Your story is a familiar one. Baquacil works for a while, then becomes more and more troublesome until you can’t manage it. Cloudiness could be mechanical from a filtration or circulation problem, or it could be biological from algae or mold growing in the pool. If your filter...

Not enough Pressure drop for water flow through Intellichem while using Heater bypass, please help

It remains in the pool unless splashed out or backwashed until it breaks down and releases the metal back in the pool. But Leslie’s testing is so uniformly bad, the most likely scenario is one or both of the tests were incorrect.

The copper is still there, just bound to the sequestrant.

    Black stains are spreading.

Welcome to TFP! Have you ever used an algaecide or alternative sanitizer that contains copper? Having your water tested for copper would be a good first step.

Any issues with ear infections ("swimmer's ear")??

With all of the kids and grandkids who’ve used our pool over 20 years, not one case.

Not enough Pressure drop for water flow through Intellichem while using Heater bypass, please help

I think you’ll either have to throttle down the water flow in the line between the taps or increase your pump flow.

    Soft cushion for grand child

You may think it crazy, but a large plastic cutting board might work. It’s made of HDPE and it should sink. You can easily sand any sharp edges. If he’s very young, maybe a shallow tote or kids bathtub might work since he’ll hold it down.

Not enough Pressure drop for water flow through Intellichem while using Heater bypass, please help

The odds of a pool store employee being knowledgeable are pretty low. They are almost uniformly worse than clueless. Not only do they know little to nothing about pool care, they “know” many things that are wrong and that will make problems worse. If your bypass isn’t flowing well enough, it’s...

Not enough Pressure drop for water flow through Intellichem while using Heater bypass, please help

Welcome to TFP! If your heater is adding copper to the water, you have other problems than water flow. You have chemistry issues. Either low pH or chemicals add directly into the skimmer damaging the heater before they disperse throughout the water. Bypassing the heater won’t change anything...

    Soft cushion for grand child

The stall mats are fairly rough on the edge and would stain the pool surface. Have you looked at spa booster seats? They are weighted.

    Curious pH test question (Science?)

Many pool service guys just put a drop of phenol read in the pool and determine pH from that. It’s honestly not that inaccurate, but I don’t want to add it to my water. I’ve found the exact drop count isn’t important, and I can usually accurately read pH when the first drop hits the sample...

    High Alkalinity with Low PH

Add chlorine. About every hour until it holds. Follow the SLAM article. Start adding CYA, but be sure you don’t overshoot. 150ppm TA should be ignored unless you have a plaster or tiled pool.

    High Alkalinity with Low PH

Welcome to TFP! I’d suggest you check out Pool School before adding more chemicals. Pool School I’ll link to specific articles below. We don’t recommend dry acid, as it adds unwanted chemicals. Muriatic Acid is the preferred pH reducer. Simply adding acid doesn’t permanently reduce TA. It...

    Pumps makes intermittent noise

Most likely it isn’t getting enough water. Likely culprits are low water level or a sticky skimmer weir. Watch your skimmer while the noise is happening.

Sweet gum balls soon to be littering my pool...

We have a nice river birch you can have. Beautiful tree, but it drops little caterpillar looking flowers by the thousands in the spring, and drops little limbs constantly. wouldn’t want it anywhere close to a pool. As soon as we figure out what to replace it with, it’s coming down.

Free chlorine not detected with test strips

1100 gallons? You need to clarify dimensions. 10x30 would imply a 10’x30’ oval. Do you mean 10’ round by 30” deep? If that’s correct, start with a pint.

Free chlorine not detected with test strips

Welcome to TFP! Tablets are slow an problematic. Test strips are also problematic. Your pool is likely 6300 to 8300 gallons, depending on the water depth. Add two quarts of laundry bleach trickled around the edge with the pump running. Wait 15 minutes and test. You have the slow dissolving...

low voltage reading at junction box when pool light switch off

Welcome to TFP! What wires are you measuring? Does the neutral pass through the switch box or does it go a different route? Measuring from neutral to the hot going to the switch should always be nominally 120V unless the breaker is off. Measuring from neutral to the wire going to the light...

Do I have the right equipment?

Welcome to TFP! Green water is a chemistry issue. Water going green in the late summer is a classic sign of using stabilized chlorine. As the stabilizer builds up, the chlorine becomes less effective, then the hot weather hits and algae takes off. There is a wide range of acceptable equipment...

    High pH help

Welcome to TFP! First, your pH is most likely not much above 8.2. The carbonate alkalinity buffer in the water is pretty solidly going to hold pH at or below 8.3, and in reality it seldom gets above 8.1 or 8.2 Your first priority is maintaining chlorine levels. Low chlorine can become an...
