How long should I wait to test after adding borates or calcium?

I added borates today and next on the agenda is adding calcium. I'm trying to get an answer on how long I should wait to test after adding each. I seem to remember the pool store years ago saying to wait a week after adding borates to test (Boric Acid from Duda). I asked this last year but...

How long should I wait to test the water after adding borates and/or calcium.

Just wanted to note I have been in the group since 2014. I'm well aware of what the calcium is in my fill water. My fill water calcium is 60 ppm. That is why my calcium levels keep dropping and I have to add it each spring. I like to start out about 250 at the beginning of the season. By...

How long should I wait to test the water after adding borates and/or calcium.

I already added the borax last weekend. I planned to do that first before the calcium. It is just more economical and readily available where I live. I searched for a Boric Acid source but couldn't find anything that wasn't more expensive than the Borax and muriatic acid. Do you have a...

How long should I wait to test the water after adding borates and/or calcium.

I live in a mud district that has softened water. My fill water is even lower in hardness than the 127 I currently have. I have to add calcium every spring or the water begins leaching calcium and leaving white streaks on our natural stone.

How long should I wait to test the water after adding borates and/or calcium.

I did several searches but not finding the exact information I'm looking for. Getting my pool in tip top shape for the season. I have a 19,000 gallon pool. My borates were at 22 and I wanted to raise them to 50. Pool Math said I should add a little over 10 boxes, I added 9 and 3 gallons of...

    Low TA

I watched a Taylor You Tube video to be sure I was doing the test right. I added the drops in quick succession like they did on the video. I get 80 every time on the pool water and 260 on the fill water. I guess I can stop worrying for now. Lol. I will see if cutting back on running the pump...

    Low TA

54 was the number the pool store gave me when I took water in to check my Borax level because I don't have test strips yet. They called it Adjusted Total Alkalinity. I just did the test on my own and got TA of 80. My fill water tests at 270.

Ph 7.8 FC 8 TA 54 CYA 62 CH 232 Borax 53 We have a spa that spills over into the pool and I believe that is the reason I am always fighting high Ph. We had been running our pump 12 hours a day, but I think I now understand that isn't necessary when manually adding liquid chlorine. I cut the...

What did you do to your pool today?

Couldn't help myself, pool store said CYA was 25 and that was several days after adding a pound of stabilizer. That made sense since I could not see the dot with my own test and boosted my confidence about my own testing. I didn't even buy additional stabilizer there, went to Walmart and...

What did you do to your pool today?

We don't "close" our pool. I just maintain the chlorine and check the ph over the winter. A week in the 70's inspired me to do a full round of testing. Filled the CYA tube to the top and could still see the dot. I had a pound of stabilizer on hand so a couple days ago I put it in a sock and...

    DE in the pool

I use 6 scoops for a backwash, and I believe it is 9 scoops for a breakdown cleaning. Since I broke it down and washed the grids and then just added 6 scoops, it might not be so bad. The filter pressure after cleaning was at 11 or 12. I will watch it until it gets to about 15 and then just do...

We do not have a manual vacuum. If it does not clear within a few days I will get one and try that route.

We are also running the pool cleaner to help keep the DE stirred up. Any thoughts?

    DE in the pool

Things have been going really well for our pool for the past year so haven't had to post in quite awhile, but now have a small problem. I have always been the one in our household to backwash and take apart and clean our filter grid, being the more mechanically inclined and handy with tools of...

    Can't get all the sand

Do you have a lot of stone work, or flagstone coping? The type of soft flagstone we get in Texas doesn't seem to be a good mix with salt systems and can cause sand in the pool as the salt slowly wears it away.

Is this limescale, calcium, spalling, efflorvescence on flagstone? How do I remove

Do you have one of the recommended kits? Can you post a full set of test results? I had something similar on a stacked stone wall where our spa spilled over into the pool. It turned out our calcium hardness level was way too low for a plaster pool. The water was leaching calcium from the...

Houston, do we have a problem?

**UPDATE** Decided to better to be safe than sorry and used up all the suspect liquid chlorine from Ace to do an overnight SLAM. Raised it to 22 ppm and even after pouring in 3 gallons of the Ace stuff still needed a few cups of my brand new Clorox from Costco. Next morning at 6:30 am it had...

    Bleach Prices 2014

I bought about 10 bottles of 10% from the ace Memorial Day sale. I would dose each evening and the next evening it seemed I had lost a lot of CL. I tested it about 30 minutes after adding it and it turned out it was only raising my CL level by the amount a 6% would. I am sticking to the 8.25%...

    Bleach Prices 2014

I would not buy it at Lowes, they store it outside in the garden center in the Houston heat. Plus the boxes and bottles are dirty amd dusty like they have been there forever.

Houston, do we have a problem?

My pool temp reads 92 this morning, it was 94 last night. As of 10:30 last night FC was 7.2, at 6:20 this morning before sunrise it was 7.0. I thought I had dosed it to reach 8 earlier in the evening. That may be part of the problem. I think my 10% chlorine from the Ace Memorial Day sale may...

Houston, do we have a problem?

Since my overnight loss is good, and there is probably nothing growing, do you think raising my CYA to 60 or 65 may help lower my daily CL consumption? I know I would have to raise my target to 8 ppm but I have been doing that anyway because of the 3 ppm daily loss. I was thinking raising the...

Houston, do we have a problem?

I was thinking a .6 ppm loss overnight wasn't too bad especially as I had tested an hour before sundown and again a couple of hours after sunup. Should I do it again the proper way? I am just concerned with needing to add nearly 3 quarts a day. Water is sparkly and beautiful.
