    Testing cold water

Quick question...my pool water is 50 degrees (Michigan). When I go to test it later this morning w/ my Taylor kit, am I good to test the water as-is or should I let the water sample warm up to room temperature first? Thanks! Todd

Need to SLAM pool, but CYA = 0

If after doing what you said and re-testing my CYA w/ a water sample that reached normal room temp what do I do if my CYA level is still way below 30? What is the best process for raising CYA to the minimum level of 30?

Need to SLAM pool, but CYA = 0

Hello! Seeking the advice once again from the experts on this site! I live in Michigan. We have a 24' ABG vinyl-liner pool. To make a long story short, the pool has been completely uncovered since the 2nd week of January! Water temp is 48 degrees. Today is the first time I've ran all my...

    Water loss during the winter

Thank you for your reply! So when you say I may have a leak in the liner...what would suddenly cause something like that? It's an AGP so should I assume some type of small rodent managed to dig its way under the pool and up to and penetrating the liner? :-(

    Water loss during the winter

Hello! I have a 24' AGP. I live in Michigan. I closed my pool about 3 1/2 weeks ago. Pool was perfectly chemical balanced and the water temp was 40 degrees at closing. The weather here has been up and down since I closed...mostly in the low to mid-50s. Since closing, I've noticed that the...

Question about Polyquat 60 and pool closing

Hello! It's pool closing day here in SW Michigan. I have a 24' AGP (13,500 gallon) pool. Pool is perfectly balanced (and has been since I discovered this site 3 months ago), crystal clear, and water temp is a bone-chilling 41 degrees. I have a 32-oz bottle of ProTeam's Polyquat 60 sitting in...

    PolyQuat 60

Hello! Getting ready to close my 24' AGP pool soon. Live in Michigan and my pool water is a bone-chilling 50 degrees so it's time lol I've read the Pool Closing article several times and I think I'm good to go with the exception of the two questions below: 1 - Where does one purchase...

    Water level loss seems extreme?

I have a 24' above ground pool, same depth throughout pool. Over a 7-day period with temps in the low 80s and no use by my family my pool water level will still drop anywhere from 1.25" to 1.5" Is this normal? I keep telling my wife "I think we have a slow leak somewhere in the pool?" She...

    Dolphin S50 question

Last night was the pilot run of my Dolphin S50, just bought it yesterday. Before putting the robot in the water I probably had 40-50 little piles of dead algae on the bottom of my pool. I'd been brushing them into suspension while SLAMing hoping to get rid of them, but every morning the 40-50...

    Dolphin S50 question

Just bought the Dolphin S50 today. Bought the ultra-fine filter separately through Amazon. Followed all the instructions, dropped it in the water 10 minutes ago and he's definitely "doing his thing!" However, nowhere in the user manual does it say when the robot cleaner's cycle is finished...

Just bought a Dolphin S50...concerned w/ one thing I read in the Limited Warranty

In the Limited Warranty for the Dolphin S50 it says "IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVE THAT THE PRODUCT WAS USED IN AN ENVIRONMENT WITH APPROPRIATE WATER CHEMISTRY." Ok, fine...no issues there. However, it then says "Chlorine: Under 4 PPM." Ok, now that's an issue for me. My CYA is...

Going on vacation...no one to watch the pool

Pool is currently balanced to TFP standards regarding all readings...no more dead algae piles on the floor, CC is 0, and passed another OCLT last night, water is crystal clear...so my algae bloom nightmare is behind me. However, going on vacation soon for 3 days and I have nobody to watch the...

Dolphin E10 vs Dolphin Active 15...need some advice

I've been seriously contemplating a robot cleaner...I'm just over always manually vacuuming by hand. My local Walmart has the E10 on sale for under $600 and it gets pretty good reviews. My local pool store has the Active 15 for $825. From what I've read online both of these cleaners will work...

    Dead algae or sand?

Thanks for setting me straight...I assumed "clear" meant just the water...I didn't know it also referred to the absence of dead algae piles on the pool floor. Still learning here :) So if I'm understanding you correctly, the piles I have are dead algae and I should continue SLAMing? Should I...

    Dead algae or sand?

I'm on the plus side of a major algae bloom. As of yesterday, my water is crystal clear, I passed an OCLT between sunset last night and sunrise this morning, and my CC reading from my K-2006C is "0", so that said...I know my SLAM process is now complete. However, I also noticed yesterday a...

High TA, but pH is good?

I just completed a 70% drain/refill of my pool yesterday to fix a sky-high CYA level entwined w/ a vicious algae bloom. Yesterday early evening, my TA was 260 and my pH was 7.9 (using my K-2006C testing kit) and water was crystal clear! PoolMath told me I had to get my pH down to 7.2 by adding...

    CYA is a CURSE!

CYA isn't the curse. The curse is pool stores not telling newbies that chlorine tabs are chocked full of CYA. I'm in my 4th year with my above ground pool and never had any issues with water clarity at all until about a month ago when my water went from crystal clear to Incredible Hulk green...

Question about partial draining above ground pool

I have a 13,500-gallon above ground pool. Because of an algae issue (and a CYA level that's out of control) I'm going to partially drain. The water truck is coming w/ 8000 gallons on Thursday of this week. I've done the math based off 13,500 gallons...if I drain my pool down to 20" deep...

    Mustard algae or pollen?

I've been SLAMing for the past 2 weeks, but I "think" my 160 CYA level is basically rendering the liquid chlorine useless at this point? I've gotten to an almost cloudy blue point, but I can't get past it to crystal clear. Called the water truck to set-up a delivery of 7000 gallons earlier...

    Mustard algae or pollen?

Been dealing with an algae problem for the past two weeks that won't go away. I'm going to be draining my pool 70% to get my 160 CYA level and 3600 phosphates level down to more healthy levels. Please see pics taken earlier today. 2 weeks ago my pool went from crystal clear to deep forest...

FC / Liquid Chlorinator / CYA questions

All - 1 - For a 13,500-gallon above-ground pool...1 gallon of Liquid Chlorinizor (10% Sodium Hypochlorite) should raise an FC of 3 ppm to what? 2 - I know a high CYA level prevents chlorine from being 100% effective, but...does a high CYA level also prevent muriatic acid from being effective...
