    Hayward GVA-24 - Actuator Failing?

Removed the actuator. Valve turns freely. I closed it all the way and will see if it drains this evening to rule out a failed check valve. Then tomorrow I’ll toy with the actuator.

    Hayward GVA-24 - Actuator Failing?

Hey guys, woke up this morning to half my spa drained, lol. Anywho, went over and checked out my equipment and it looks like one of my actuated valves isn't all the way in the closed position. So, I swapped it from pool to spa mode for it to actuate and it closes all the way on the other end...

    Scale removal on Slide

I think the pumice stone would remove the finish that is on the slide. It is essentially just painted gunite.

    Scale removal on Slide

Hi all, I maintain my pool throughout the year because I use my hot tub frequently. I guess I let my pH get a little high and have gotten some scale spots on my gunite slide. Any tips on removing this? Assuming muriatic acid and a scrub brush would be too aggressive on the slide finish. Thanks!

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

I've recently switched from "Pool Essential" brand liquid chlorine 10% to Home Depot's HDX liquid Chlorine 10%. They come in a pack of 3 for $9.99 and to me the Chlorine is a better quality than that of the Walmart brand. Could be total placebo effect but *shrug* One less reason to go to...

Definitely a precursor to something brewing in the water...they eat algae. usually my first indication need more chlorine. Suckers multiply quickly too.

Umbrella Sleeve Cap - Seized close due to plaster

Yeah I know, right.... Luckily I have two other sleeves for volleyball so I used one of those caps to make sure I didn't damage the threads and I didnt, so yay! My biggest worry was for me to damage the overall sleeve and/or crack the plaster around it. Luckily that didn't happen.

Umbrella Sleeve Cap - Seized close due to plaster

*Update* I was able to get the cap off....this is what I had to do.... Used a screwdriver and hammer and essentially cut a square into the top of it. Then used a hacksaw blade and cut the cap into quarters and then just pried it out. Saved the threads on the sleeve so we are good to go.

    Outdoor TV help please

I've had my "standard" Samsung 55" outside for a full year now. Its under a covered patio and also bought one of these to put on it when not in use: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PBA5B9Y/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 So far so good.

    Outdoor Shower

I built mine from simple 3/4" PVC from Home Depot. Tapped off of the water line to my outdoor kitchen. It's cold water only, however since we are in Texas the first 30 seconds are always hot :) We use it mainly to rinse off before getting in (especially on workout days or after yard work)...

Umbrella Sleeve Cap - Seized close due to plaster

So, we went to use the umbrella sleeve for the first time on our sunshelf and I could not remove the cap. Tried using some pliers, a box cutter around the lip to cut-away some plaster that may have hardened in the threads with zero luck. Any suggestions for getting the cap off? Thanks in...

Quartzscape Plaster Issues - Ongoing with the GC

I've had my pool up and running since April of this year. Enjoyed it all summer long. In June, we started seeing these black spots randomly throughout the pool. NPT is the plaster manufacturer and they came out with my pool builder and stated it was metal stains embedded in the plaster due to...

Don't laugh: water features during freezes

Luckily looks like the default on my Omnilogic has the freeze protection enabled. It kicks on at 35F. Probably want to lower that to 32 or 33 though. My only concern are the flex hoses and fittings for my weeping rocks as they are above grade.

Looking for a builder in Katy, Texas (west Houston)

Sorry just seeing this, I would take my recommendation back, the pool itself is done...unfortunately the finishing touches(roof leaks on pergola roof, Firepit glass, chlorinator fix, plaster fix) are not and we have small stains appearing in our plaster which NPT is saying is due to them not...

    Random dark spots in Plaster

Just following up on this post. My pool contractor had the manufacturer of the plaster come out to take a look at the stains (now probably 15 - 20). NPT stated (right away) that these are copper stains, however they were caused by poor application of the plaster. Their statement was: 1. When...

Freezing Temps - What to do

I live in Katy, Tx. The forecasts are getting close to freezing at night so I’m wondering what I need to do in order to prep for freezing temperatures? I’ve been maintaining my pool the same way I did fit the summer (because we use the spa), so what measures should I take to ensure no burst...

New Fiberglass Pool for a friend

So we got the pH up to 7.6 and the TA is slowly rising as well. I think it was at 60 yesterday when he checked. He's coming out of his SLAM and I've gotten him convinced that liquid chlorine is the way to go (and not just try to only use the pucks). I previously tried to convince him about...

New Fiberglass Pool for a friend

A friend of mine just got a new pool built at this house. its a 12,000 gal fiberglass pool. He has a Hayward Swimclear C200S with a 1.5HP Tristar pump (Single Speed). I made him buy the Taylor K-2006c to start testing his water. He just did his first water test, and yikes.... FC - 10 CC - 1...

    Is my CYA low?

I quickly learned that test strips will screw up your test results. Taylor FTW! Also, limit the pucks for when you only need CYA boost....you don't want to drive up the CYA otherwise, you're going to be dumping a large amount of chlorine to match your high CYA requirement.

CH of 160, should I raise it?

Did you have high calcium levels recently (from the scaling that you are describing)? I think as long as you are in the -.6 - .6 CSI range will be OK. I fought high CH for WEEKS because of a new pool and excess shocking done by my pool builder. It has only recently dropped down to the 200...

    Post-Harvey test numbers

Same boat trying to get my pool back in balance. We were one of the lucky areas that did not get flooded. My numbers as of this morning are: FC: 5.6ppm CC: 0ppm pH: 7.2 TA: 90 CH: 175ppm CYA: 30ppm (but likely lower) My CH has never been below 425ppm since we had our pool so I'm in uncharted...

Texas Coast & Inland - Balancing pool w Lot's of Rain

I've done my 5th and 6th drain to below the tile line this morning. Added Chlorine. pH sitting at 7.2. Added 11lbs of baking soda to adjust my TA of 50 and threw a puck into the skimmer to bring up my CYA a smidge. Holding strong! We are a lot more fortunate than others in the Houston area.
