Wire Brush Okay for Gunite?

I've been using a wire brush on my gunite pool, and it seems like a lot of junk ended up in the filter. Is it better to use nylon? I'm afraid what's going into the filter is gunite.

Amazon lists a lot of nylon brushes, but the ads say they're for vinyl pools.

Use a nylon brush for normal brushing - 18" Nylon pool brush

Best brush is The Wall Whale Brush 18 " Nylon

Wire brushes are for serious algae problems on the pool walls.

You should be brushing plaster, not gunite.

It should not damage plaster if the plaster is in good condition. Lots of old pools have plaster that is at the end of its life.

Using a metal brush on plaster over a long period of time can shorten the lifespan of the plaster under some conditions, low pH and low CH typically. I mean over many years, like 5-10 years. If the junk in the filter is organic material then there is nothing to worry about. If it looks more like plaster dust or white powder material then maybe.

What are your typical test results for pH, TA and CH?

We have a regular brush, a wire brush and a combo brush that has both. The wire seemed to be pretty harsh and the combo brush seems to be gentle yet still brushes well....the nylon brush seems like I am wasting my time.
