I just completed my first summer with TFP (so nice to be independent of the pool store and pool service company!). Thank you for all the great information here and answers to some of my initial questions.

I live in northern TX, pool temp is about 70 degrees and a bit cold for us. I just covered the pool. Typically when I had a pool company they would turn off the salt water generator, run the pump for 4 hrs in the early am, and set the Polaris sweep to run about 1 1/2 hrs. for the duration of the winter months.

My questions... is that a good plan? Since the water temp is higher I could still run the SWJ for a few more weeks at least. I also have an inline tube for the chlorine tabs I can drop those in as needed. Or alternatively add the liquid chlorine. If I recall they used to add a 1lb or so of shock every several weeks.

I will still monitor the chemicals, but mostly wondering the best way to chlorinate since the SWJ will be ineffective soon.

Thanks!

We don't really "close" anything in N Texas. Run the SWCG until cold water shutdown to keep your FC in the proper range. Remove leaves and empty skimmers as needed. When the SWCG shuts down, you can use tabs in a floater (to replace CYA lost from summer heat) or add liquid. Your FC demand will be minimal due to cold water.

Congratulations on the successful rollout of TFP protocols. Continue that by not using tabs in your pool. You have a SWG for a reason and liquid chlorine for when you need it. The SWG will work down to about 50 degree water at which time you'll need to use LC the rest of the winter. You won't need much but you'll still want to test weekly to know. Keep the pump on a 4-6 hour run schedule and pick it up again in the spring. Just stay away from pool store products.

Thanks! Will be even easier since it's covered.

Will do, thank you for the advice!
