Winter water loss?

So we closed the pool late this year. It was around Mid November. I'm checking it now a little over 2 months latter and we've lost about 6 inches of water. We did have a small leak in the liner over the summer but no water loss associated with it after repair. We've had a VERY cold winter in Michigan with very dry air. Should I continue to monitor and actually add water under the cover if it dips a lot more? I have no idea what could be causing that amount of water loss. This is our first full winter with the pool. Not sure if this is normal. There is a rather large chunk of ice on top and under the cover but I would guess that this means that there is probably even more water loss than is actually showing as water expands when frozen and the water on top the cover would be causing the water in the pool to raise. Hurm : / it's very concerning.

Thank you for any insight,
Amanda

I know we are far apart as far as weather and such but I wanted to tell you that we have lost a lot of water this winter. We have had big winds and such so I think that has be part of the problem with the water loss. I am hopeful that is the same reason you are losing water.

Let us know what you find out when Spring comes at long last!
