I have a 21' round AGP. Getting ready to close for winter and need a new cover. I've used a closed cover in the past and removed standing water with a sump pump. I worked fairly well. Was wondering if I should get a cover that lets the rain water go into the pool. Then I don't have to worry about the pump. Trying to get preferences from other owners. Thanks

You will then need to worry about the water level in the pool & have a way for that to drain out whilst also protecting your skimmer in freezing temps.
Also a permeable cover allows unchlorinated water & some debris in so you may have more of a mess to clean up in the spring.
I like the predictability of having a solid cover protecting my fc through the winter nap and opening crystal clear with fc remaining in the spring. YMMV.

In the northeast we get about 3 ft of off season rain / methed snow. You're either pumping below the cover, or above. It's your choice which you prefer as there's only so much room either can absorb.

Thanks. I thought about that. I need to pump the water out of the pool if it gets too high by letting the water in Also, you are correct about the clean up. I open to a clean pool every year. Thanks for confirming my thoughts.

I like keeping clean & dirty water separate personally. The pump can be a pain but an automatic one is really nice then you just have to be sure to remove it before the freeze. I have a harbor freight one.
