Why would this happen?

I put my hose in the water for 2-3 days to fill the pool. It was not running the entire time, but nobody pulled it out when it was not running. Once I pulled the hose out of the pool, it came out looking like this. It appears to be calcium, but I didn't taste it.
Any ideas why this would happen and if I should be concerned about it? Thanks! IMG_5862.JPG

I bet it is corrosion from the chlorine.

I dumped 5 40 pound bags of water softener salt in 5 days ago. In addition to the brass corosion above, any idea why my CH would still be so low?

CH? Did you ever add calcium yet this season? You mentioned the salt, but that would be for the SWG. Your CH probably dropped from winter prep. Be sure to get the FC increased right away before algae sets in.
I have a chlorine pool, not SWG. I thought I could use softener salt for the Calcium. If that is wrong, what would you suggest I use?
I added chlorine just after the tes tlast night. That was dangerously low!

Thanks

Calcium hardness can be raised with calcium chloride or calcium chloride dihydrate. They are available in some areas as Peladow, Dowflake, Tetra Flake, or Tetra 94, often sold as a deicer by hardware stores, and some big box stores, in colder climates. Pool stores will carry either calcium chloride or calcium chloride dihydrate under a variety of names, including Hardness Plus, Balance Pak 300, Calcium Hardness Increaser, etc. Calcium products should be spread across the surface of the deep end of the pool.
