Your pool needs "X" amount of chlorine. The amount of chlorine is based primarily on your CYA level. Proper chlorine levels means you will not have algae. Adding algeacides does not change the requirement for proper chlorine levels. It is a reactionary method of dealing with algae that you will get when not maintaining a proper chlorine to CYA ratio.
