Hello, I'm not the most savvy person when it comes to managing my pool, but I have a large pool with water features, tanning ledge, and spa. The control box is a Hayward Omnilogic controller and I've had nothing but problems with it from the moment my pool was built. The Hayward technicians replaced the mother board twice in the first year, which solved the biggest issues, but the box continues to have problems and I'm now faced with more major repairs that are out of warranty. So, I'm hoping someone can recommend a better option than Hayward. On top of the many defects my box has had, it is also inconvenient to maintain. For instance, Hayward requires me to make manual software updates by going to my computer, downloading the new firmware to a very specific type of usb stick, then removing the control box cover, inserting the usb stick, and following a series of prompts. This requirement seems to be a decade behind the times, so it would be nice if my new controller automatically updated firmware. In addition to the typical features, my new box must also have freeze protection controls and an auto shut off when the valve malfunctions or is churning air. I'd appreciate any advice you might have. Thx!

How old is your Omnilogic panel?
Give us a list of the equipment that your Omnilogic system controls.
If your Omnilogic system has the optional WiFi it should be able to do OTA updates. Hayward OmniPL has standard WiFi and OTA updates.
Depending on your equipment list maybe a Pentair IntelliCenter could work for you.
The Attendant from Poolside Tech has impressive specs and equipment compatibility but we don’t see many folks here using it.
In general pool automation is still early 2000’s tech. The most impressive are those who DIY their own pool controls to build what they cannot buy.

Regarding the electrical issues you have had with your OmniLogic, I would recommend that you get a licensed electrician to come and look over your electrical panel for a loose terminal screw from the pool equipment or other wiring which might be causing the shorting issue. I had an electrician add some outlets in my garage after our pool was done and while he was doing that he noticed some loose terminal screws going to the pool, since he was there he made sure the screws were tightened up properly. Also maybe have him check the terminal screws on the pool equipment end.
