Hi, wondering what this powder might be at the bottom of my spa motor. What chemistry could cause this? Should I plan on replacing/repairing the pump now before winter sets in?
Thanks. Weird thing is it is bone dry. Just this powder is the only evidence. This spa is just chlorine so no salt in the water. What else could the powder be? Calcium?
I think it's a reaction of chlorinated water to the Aluminum part of the motor housing. The old pool motor I replaced this past winter, the entire front lower half was coated w that white stuff. The motor had leaked badly when I bought the place.
I would replace the seals to ensure no further possible issues.

Thanks! Looking into getting new shaft seal and housing o-ring. Do you think a new impeller is a good idea too since I'm going to be opening up the wet end anyway?
Impellor likely to be ok, unless it's threads are excessively worn... probably not.
If you do, make sure it's the exact same hp rating as the one you have.
Also if you have a choice between salt and non salt seals, get the salt variant...they last longer.
