I recently started using the solar roller to remove the pool cover. It is working well for me as I don't have to wait on my husband now to help me take the cover off. I noticed yesterday that there are white clumps forming on the pole. It this fungus of some kind or a chemical collecting on the pole?

It’s likeky corrosion of the aluminum from exposure to chlorinated water. Chlorine causes the aluminum to corrode and oxidize forming a white aluminum oxide scale. If you scratch it with your finger, it should look and feel crusty. The same thing can be found on an aluminum pool pole. It’s nothing to worry about and can simply be brushed off the aluminum. It won’t dissolve into your water and your vacuum will eventually pick it up.
