Hey all,

I’ve been driving myself crazy debating on whether to get a liquid chlorinator (hasa) or a SWG. My CYA is way too high cause of the tabs. It’s not so much the money, it’s the worry that a salt water pool could cause damage.

My pool is probably around 30 yrs old, typical aluminum coping and steel walls. It’s in good condition and I just had the liner replaced a year ago (bought house last year) I’m worried the salt will sneak into the liner bead and damage the steel walls. I also worry about bonding. How would I know if my pool is bonded properly? I can see the pump is grounded to a ground rod. I have no heater. I hear mixed things about SWG and vinyl pools.

Do they not run below 70 degrees?
Anyone have a leak in which the salt water damaged the walls?

Should I convert or figure out a liquid dispensing way? (Def not pouring everyday lol)

Would be wise to get a salt test kit and measure how much salt is already in there. It’s the water that damages the steel walls, not the tiny amount of salt in the water. The salt systems work down to around 55F. Using liquid chlorine and acid also adds some salt.

I have installed and used both. I started with a Stenner to dose liquid chlorine. After a couple years I converted.

You, in Philadelphia, will end up with 1000-2000ppm on a consistent basis from using liquid chlorine to chlorinate.

They will stop producing when temps are somewhere in the 50s.

Install an SWG and don't look back.
