Where is sand coming from?

Recently I have noticed sand showing up in more and more places in my pool. It used to just show up on the steps leading down into shallow end now it is in deep end, underneath 1 of the 2 skimmer baskets, and at bottom of cartridge filter. (See attached pics)

I have used wet/dry vac to clean out sand where I can and used pool vac to clean sand on bottom of pool but it keeps returning. I have socks on both skimmer baskets so when I use pool vac the sand gets caught in them.

How do I figure out where sand is coming from and what can I do to stop it?

If sand, as you have a cartridge filter and a vinyl liner pool, it can only come from the environment around your pool. Do you have pavers with sand in the joints? Have you monitored water use/chemistry for a leak? Wind carrying it into the pool?

I just patched a small tear in the liner in the shallow end but I haven’t noticed any sand in the area of the tear. I do have pavers with sand in joints and we have had quite a bit of rain and wind here in New England this summer so that might explain more sand in pool.

I was most concerned about sand in filter. Not sure how it got there if I have socks on skimmer baskets. I thought they would catch the sand before returning to filter.

Depends on the grain size. Skimmer sock may have slipped allowing some sand through.
