Where do you all buy chemicals?

Can you take a pic of the granular shock youve been using. With your CYA a little low and your CH high, I wonder if you’ve been using CalHypo?

EDIT: never mind. Either way, you shouldn’t add more, so we don’t really need to look into that.

Yup, I have been using CalHypo...never even looked close enough at it...just bought shock from the pool shop... Oops...lesson learned!

Put in the MA about 40 minutes ago, and now about to put in liquid chlorine

Thanks again for your help everyone! I was seriously googling PoolRX a few days ago when I stumbled upon this site, and you all saved me from buying PoolRX and going the TFP route instead!

Definitely no poolrx ❌ adding metals to the water is a terrible idea. Adequate amounts of chlorine FC/CYA Levels are enough to prevent the problems those types of products claim to fix.
Many trichlor & dichlor products also contain copper. It never leaves except through water exchange & when the levels get high enough you can get stains, green water, green hair, & green fingernails 🤢 just think of the Statue of Liberty 🗽- she’s oxidized copper.

Easy way to pour chems into the pool is to lower the bottle in so it floats, tip to pour (you're at water level
so almost zero splash), cap, dunk to rinse if needed and done! You'll probably need to measure at first
until you have a handle on what your pool needs but it’s always best practice to handle chemicals once.

Bought some liquid chlorine last night at Walmart for $4.63...just looked online and now the same 128 oz bottle at Walmart is $8.90!
call your local pressure washing and house cleaning companies and see if they will tell you where they buy their chlorine in bulk from.

I get my 12.5% chlorine for $1.89 a gallon at a local chemical company. I buy 5 gallons at a time for like $10.

I’ve been searching for a chemical company near me but no luck so far. If anyone figures out a place in LA close to the valley, hit me up.

The pool store I got my pump parts from was selling 4-packs of 12.5 chlorine for $35-$40. I can get the same thing from Farm & Fleet for $15.

Personally, I dilute the MA in a bucket with some pool water. Never had an issue with spillage, but I'm also not filling the bucket to the top.

Bleach and true liquid chlorine does seem to have different %. The smaller the % the more you need to add. I'm at 16K and I find I put about 1 gallon of bleach every other day.
