I'm reusing the heater (a Teledyne Mark V) while replacing the old timer system with an Easytouch system. (maybe I will replace the heater in a couple years - but the heater's still functioning OK.)
The heater had a "fireman switch" in the old timer box, and the cable is labeled "water resistant type ST" for the wire from the heater to the timer box.
I could reuse that same ST cable for between the boxes. I'd have to connect with THWN inside the Easytouch box because there isn't sufficient wire length.
Or I could go buy some flexible liquidtight conduit for between the boxes, and run THWN/THHN for the whole run.
From what I can tell ST isn't exterior rated. But the cable seems to be in good shape even though it's probably 30-40 years old.
