What? The water is supposed to go IN the pool?!?

UPDATE!

Clue #1: I misread @JamesW's post. He's right, there's a flattened drain hose running across the yard, from what looks to be the pad to the chaise lounge. Is that a submersible pump in the chaise? Or maybe the pump is at the other end?

Clue #2: that looks to be a pressure washer setup near the corner of the pool closest to the house. Hmmm...

Those are gunna shoot down Allen's insurance claim. And his guess. And mine, too! This looks to be something the owner was up to.

I thought that the owner was either trying to backwash his filter, or drain off a little water, (either, using the main pump via main drain), and then walked away for "just a second" to check on something, and then just spaced out. Came back hours later to find the result. That's something I would do (have done!). 🤪

But he was up to something. Maybe decided it was time to power wash the pool? Plopped in a submersible pump and something went haywire?

More mysteries: Why the garden hose? Refilling the pool? Did he finish the power wash? And where the heck is the shallow end of that pool?!?

Did the garden hose and pump appear when the guy tried to put the water back in the pool?

That pump hose is going out front to the sewer clean-outs in front of his house. (That’s what we have to do here in AZ. No dumping in the streets)
Isn’t anyone going to say something about the missing tiles as well?

The pool pad equipment is on the top right of the picture, so the submersible pump connected to the flat hose to drain is the most probable cause. Maybe back there was a drain that plugged up or couldnt keep up with the GPMs.

The pool doesn't look to need a power wash, so maybe it's already been done. The garden hose was disconnected from the power washer and put into the pool to refill it.

The drain hose could have been what emptied the pool. But maybe he's working on a plan to use it to drain his yard?

Now I'm thinking he used his filter pump and main drain to empty the pool, in advance of power washing the pool. As Rob suggests, he used that flat hose to route the water from his pad to where his city allows. He got it going then went inside for a sandwich. He sat down to watch the game. The hose popped off and the pump continued to drain the pool, now into his yard. He discovers it too late. But he might as well finish the power wash, which he does, then moves the garden hose into the pool to refill it. Then drags the drain hose out into the yard to maybe siphon the mess out to the street. But before he gets that going his wife gets home, freaks out, and demands he pose for this picture to use in the family's Christmas letter, which she'll send only to all her in-laws, so she can not so subtly blame her mother- and father-in-law, who she never liked, for spawning her dope of a husband!

The picture looks like it was taken by a neighbor looking over the fence.

The homeowner does not look too happy about the picture being taken.

The neighbor was probably saying “Hey Todd, if you had been following TFP maintenance, like I kept telling you, you would not be in this predicament”.

I can't print what Todd's response was.

I do sort'a see that now, over on the right. The puddle seems to start about where I kind'a see some 2" PVC going into the ground?

Still no winners ? .......... so you're telling me there's a chance.

Tim 'the toolman' Taylor got his hands on the new 9600HD-MAX jet engine powered sump, capable of pushing almost 100k GPM. When consulted to see if he thought it was a good idea, his longtiime sidekick Al 'didn't think so'. The Binford tools rep had to come see for himself (pictured). Photo taken by Wilson.

Uh... no. That video, and guy, was messed up on sooo many levels... 🤪

But that video led me to this one, which might be a better explanation, if the guy tried to scale up what this video explains how to do...
