What just happened?!

My wife and I just moved to a new home with a pool and are pool newbies. The pool’s equipment does a very good job of keeping the pool clean... Pentair 60SF DE filter, booster pump for the Polaris, everything running smoothly. Then...

Today we had landscapers trim back the trees around the pool, leaving a considerable amount of sticks, twigs, leaves, and tree “muck” in the pool. We went to work with the net and got all of the big pieces cleaned out, then decided to let the Polaris have at the fine, particulate stuff that was left (and there was a considerable scattering of it on the pool floor).

The Polaris went to work and went out to eat. When we returned, the pool floor was almost spotless. My wife and I were in the midst of talking about how well the Polaris was working when, a few seconds later, I glanced back at the pool - and to my shock and horror - the pool floor was strewn with all of the debris that had been there earlier in the day! This occurred over a period of mere seconds - from sparkling clean pool to strewn with debris!

The next thing I noticed was that the Polaris was no longer moving, which turned out to be a clogged screen in the quick disconnect valve. I clean out the clogged screen, replace it and turn the booster pump on, but within seconds the Polaris grinds to a halt, the screen clogged once again (went through this several times, but debris clogs the screen immediately).

I’ve scoured the Internet, but can’t find anything remotely like what happened here tonight. I have presently turned off AC to the entire pump system until I can figure out what’s going on.

Any ideas here?

Pool Newbie? I know how you feel, been there and still doing that.
If I were you, I'd start by cleaning the filters, baskets and screen, also the net trap on the Polaris.
If you want, leave the hose off of the Polaris port and blow everything out, then use the net to get as much as you can before starting up the system again.
The Polaris is for incidental debris, not major cleaning.
