A couple of ideas to help your filter out. Skimmer socks that are not the ones we suggest for the dog hair and stuff. I am thinking the tighter weave ones you can buy at Lowes or such. You could also put some polyfil in the skimmer basket to help filter even more.
With you having a cartridge filter you cannot vacuum to waste so the clarifiers could cause more problems in the end as that stuff can gunk up the filter. Now if you can plumb a pipe in before the filter to have the water exit out of it could work.
