What is Actual FC as Trichlor Dissolves?

Pool math gives the increase in FC for a given amount of trichlor by weight. But this seems to assume that all the trichlor is dissolved at once. But as the trichlor slowly dissolves, the portion in solution is being used up, so how can we know what the actual FC is at any point in the dissolving process, and what the FC is at the end of the process?

You can't. The tablets dissolve at a rate dependent on water temperature and flow around each tablet. 2 pounds of trichlor in a stack of 3 inch tablets will dissolve much slower than 2 pounds of trichlor in a disorganized pile of one inch tablets. You are also asking about variables like organic load of the water and UV exposure, which can literally change minute to minute.

The only thing you can calculate reliably is the total amount of FC and CYA that will be introduced in to the water in total. If you want to know your FC level at any given time then you have to test it.

Yeah, that’s what I suspected. Thanks.
