This looks like no other algae I have seen! We have had a pool for a lot of years! Is it rust stains or brown/yellow algae?
How do we get rid of it?

No, I do not have a lawn. A week ago, the solar fell blew in the pool. Also, the power company put up a big metal pole at the corner of our property.
Yes, I have tried brushing it and nothing happens. I’m going to shock tonight to see if that helps. Ph is 7.5, chlorine is .5, total hardness is high at 150

Your Chlorine is way to low!!!

I tried scrubbing one with a vitamin c pill but did not do any noticeable change. I’ll scrub it good after I shock tonight and if that doesn’t work I’ll use ascorbic acid and metal free in the spring before I drain and refill.

I have always struggled with chlorine levels. I use 2, 3 inch tablets in a floater and replace once a week. What else can I do?
Use liquid chlorine.
2 pucks per week adds 7 ppm FC PER WEEK. You likely need about 4 ppm FC PER DAY right now.

You need a proper test kit.

Well after super shocking the pool and running the pump all night, I did not see any noticeable difference in the spots so it must be rust stains. Leslie’s has pool stain remover that is ascorbic acid but is quite pricey. Is it the same product when you use food grade ascorbic acid that is much less expensive to buy in bulk?

What product are you using to “super shock” ?

We recommend using liquid chlorine for daily chlorination & maintaining target range fc levels according to your cya level

Those tabs aren’t giving you enough chlorine as Marty pointed out & they are also adding cya that doesn’t leave unless you replace water (evaporation doesn’t lower cya)
Here’s what your weekly dose of 2 tabs does

Then I should probably explore using liquid chlorine for all my pool needs. I’ve been looking at threads pertaining to removing rust spots and had some questions. I have read that dry ph decreased will remove spots. Can I do this with a scrubby when the pool is drained? Do magic erasers work? Would liquid chlorine work with a scrubby? I probably won’t be able to drain until the spring so I am just looking for suggestions! I’m gonna try to get in the pool today and try the magic eraser method of scrubbing but there are a lot of spots!

Try the vitamin c first - but use like 15 pills & crush it up this time (i did mine in my ninja bullet) then put that in a sock & let it sit on the stains a little. You can do this with your foot or a pool brush if they are deeper down.
