We have a pool that is swamp like at the moment with frogs, turtles, and is a dark brown color. We are going to empty it to do some work, but I imagine inside of the filter is just as bad. When we open the pool back up with fresh water, I really don't want to introduce algae back into the pool. What can I do to prevent it? Or is it inevitable and I should just prepare to knock it out right away with chlorine and algaecide?
I was wondering if I should turn the pool on and backwash the filter to get any larger gunk out, but I'd be doing it with dirty water, if that would help at all? Or should I wait until I have clean water in the pool and backwash with clean water? Or should I remove all the glass from my filter and clean it out before adding in the clean water to the pool, necessary or overkill? Also, what happens to all the water in the pipes underground when I refill? Sorry, lots of questions, I don't have much experience with this and local professionals aren't willing to help.
