What did you do to your pool today?

Scooped, & hand vac’d w/ the cordless 😩 sadly i think my $45 intex automatic pool cleaner is ready for retirement after almost 4 seasons. He just isn’t moving properly so he doesn’t really pick much up anymore. Really fighting the urge to hit the buy it now button on a dolphin🐬.....

I declared my first SLAM officially over after passing the OCLT a few times. Went out and admired the crystal clear water and how beautiful it looks and felt proud that a newbie like myself could get the pool in the best shape it’s been since owning the home (5 years). So thankful for this site and community of folks providing the knowledge and tools to empower people like myself.

Oh, and scooped out a few leaves from my giant water oak tree and tried telling them to stay away from my clear water! 🤔

Finally changed out my DE filter grids. After 13 years, they still don’t have any discernible tears, but I thought it was time.
Huge blood draw on Wednesday as part of the vaccine trial.
During the grid swap, I also experienced a huge blood draw, but nothing as noble as participating in the vaccine trial. Mosquitoes have infested my paradise due to all of the heavy rain recently. My mosquito eradicators just couldn’t keep up, I guess. They worked great up until now. 😟

We did not have a big mosquito year, this year. I did a lot of work to remove standing water, a few years back. We also have a huge anole lizard commune in our backyard, which might help too.

Nights are colder. The heat pump just can't keep up so we turned it off. 6 days and the pool has dropped 18°F to 72°F.
Hope to get to 60°F soon to close before all the trees dump their leaves. The water is still crystal clear Bombay Gin Blue,
but it is also cold. I have slowed my chlorinating liquid to 1 litre every 3 days and my FC is still rising. I will start adding 1/2 litre every 2 days. It is great to have a balanced pool.

Tested everything... Numbers are perfect and pool is gorgeous. Baby proofed our test kit. Little dude can reach counters now, and the test kit sometimes sits on the counter.

Goosed my FC with a little extra liquid chlorine in advance of our expected 112° day and Labor Day Weekend summer blowout! As per my latest thread! (Shameless plug alert!)

Cranked up the heater and upped FC for several days of pool parties. Water up to 88-90 deg. and air temps in the 70's.
Not giving up on summer till September 21. I've been known to swim in October when the weather does it's last "hurrah" before the bottom drops out.

Don't you hate all this talk of leaves falling and Labor Day and cooling temps and "how to close my pool for winter"?!? I'm in denial (and in CA). Summer forever!!!! (Or at least a while longer, please...)

Wow. Of course that must happen, but I can't imagine being able to knock on my pool! How thick does the ice get? Well, at least you can't get algae, right?

I think the ice gets solid, so that would be 2-3ft thick. I'm not sure but it doesn't move and we have a deep end.
When we winterize the AGP, we have to blow out all the lines, cap them off and lower the water level to 6" below the return opening.
Kids have asked if we ice skate on it. Hahaha. That would cut the liner. Or if one mis-judged the edge, one could "fall out of the rink" land on the ground 4 feet below and have the fall cushioned with 1-2 feet of snow.

So we swim as long as we can, wait as long as we can before shutting off the heater, watching the water longingly until it gets below 60 deg, then close it up and wait for next spring.
