Where you went wrong; The pool calc give you amounts of Baking Soda OR Borax needed to raise PH, since you also needed to raise your TA you just add the amount of Baking Soda suggested, that gives you the adjustment you need for PH while raising the TA. If your TA is good then you add the suggested amount of Borax and No Baking Soda.
I am a newbee also , I did not zero out the borates and the calc wanted something like 2000 ML of dry acid to lower my PH from 8.2. Good thing I only put 2 lbs in.
