My equipment is about 6 feet higher than my pool. The pool has 2 skimmers and 1 main drain.

Recently my tech, after working on some repair, took the water hose, attached it to some device, inserted it into one skimmer after removing the basket, and pushed water up from there to the equipment. He flipped the valves around in sequence to fill the pump, piping to second skimmer, and piping to main drain in turn. Pump primed very easily after that.

I'd like to be able to do that myself. What kind of device do I need to attach to the hose?

Thanks!

I've used a drain king but I normally just open the pump basket by the motor and use a garden hose to fill the closest skimmer line while keeping the main and other skimmer valves shut.

With my elevated equipment I think that water would just run into the pool, wouldn't it?
Also I have a check valve right before the pump basket which makes that difficult

Drain King. With a check valve (that is spring-loaded, hopefully) filing the pump pot to the top will fill pipe as well. A pump with a lubricated lid O ring and no issues will lift the water, though it can be slow.
