What are the Reddish/Brownish Spots are -- New Pool owner seeking help .

I recently bought a house and trying to understand what these red/brown spots are . Looking for help from the forum members to figure out what exactly is this and what can I do to pin point and get rid of it. it's just present on the shallower side of pool on the edges and the stairs . Rest pool looks ok to me .

Could be black algae. Is this a plaster pool? Has it gone long periods with no or very low FC levels?
Try to scrape off some it and smear on a paper towel. If green, it is black algae.
