What Are Some Things You Wish You Knew When You Started?

That it would be so stupid easy I didn't need to fight against getting a pool for 5 years. My first swamp was when the unit died at 6.5 years and I had zero clue what to do the old fashioned way.

Jen,

The two main things you need to know to successfully maintain a saltwater pool are:

The proper CYA to FC relationship for Saltwater pools. FC/CYA Levels

Being able to determine how long to run your pump, and setting the cell's output, to match your pool's Chlorine demand. (Pool Math)

Thanks,

Jim R.

I wish I would have converted to SWG last year when I was thinking about it. Now I'm waiting for IC60s to become readily available again and at higher prices.

Nothing really. I didn't know any other way except SWG. This is my first pool I owned. As technology changed such as single speed to variable speed pumps, I learned to adjust how I ran my pool.

I was ignorant but didn't know it but thankfully my PB was smart and installed a SWG that was so much larger than I would have thought to have put in myself.
My SWG is sized almost 3x my pool size- my first cell lasted over 9 years!

At TFP we always advise folks to buy at least 2X their pool's water volume. I was lucky.

This... Fortunately my PB installed a 40k cell on my 14k pool, so I was very happy when I joined TFP and figured out that was the recommendation. I will likely purchase an IC60 for the next one, just to get the longer usage time.
