Wet concrete areas revealed after demolition

Good morning team-

We are having our pool refinished with a Stonescapes mini pebble. Yesterday was demolition day, and the old liner was removed.

This morning, I noticed several areas of the pool that appear damp (our climate, any remaining surface moisture should have evaporated off overnight).

I’m concerned that this is the sign of either a leak, uncured concrete from when the pool was originally built, or suggests standing water somewhere. Below are a few pictures- would love some guidance! I (want to make sure our contractor addresses whatever this is rather than simply cover over it and pretend it’s fine!)

When you say that the "old liner" was removed, I assume you are talking about the old plaster...

The Plaster is what makes the pool watertight, not the gunite shell.

I would suspect that you have some standing water behind the concrete, either ground water or from a sprinkler system.

These kind of 'leaks' are not unusual..

Is the leak in gunite itself, or is there some pipe at the leak point?

This is helpful! Thanks for clarifying - yes, it was the old plaster. It doesn't appear to be from pipes - there are a few other areas on our spa wall that show the same dampness. Good to know this is not unusual. I'll see if I can get some more pictures up.

I have concerns from the picture that the water is making its way through the Shotcrete shell in the middle of the field and not from around any plumbing pipes. Any type of water moving through the shell has the potential to make contact with the rebar cage and after time would degrade the strength and also deposit the rust to the surface of the pool.
