Well here we go! 1st day of SLAM

If y’all have an Atwood’s they have the best prices on bleach. 10% gallon jugs for $1.99 and worth the hour long drive to get it. I fill up my truck bed with as many cases as it will hold. The lady asks what I’m doing with it and I use the old “it cleans up blood the best after I hide the bodies.” Seems to always generate a priceless look from the cashier and speeds them up too lol.
Thank you for the Atwood’s link...I’m new to Oklahoma and hadn’t heard of this store...there are several in the Tulsa area so I should be all set!

Day 4 pics and the lighting is not very good for pictures but here you go. Looks better in person.

Day 6
Forgot to take pics before we brushed the pool so I’ll take some this afternoon. It’s looking much better. We can see the bottom 75% of the pool just not the deepest end by the main drain yet. Shallow end is starting to sparkle a little. Overnight FC loss was just 1 and CC is .5 but we still have a long way to go. The kids anticipation is like they’re waiting on Christmas morning. It’s funny to see their reactions to how the pool changes every morning.

Day 7 and major improvements.
Fc loss of 1
CC loss of .5
And you can start to see sparkles in the deeper parts and you can see the bottom of the deep and the drain. Still some work to do but Oh so close!

Now I need to figure out how to repair the plaster on the edge of my steps and 2 seating areas.

Well I passed the overnight loss test and cc less than .5 so I’m pretty much finished. However, we had a pretty good storm last night so I’ve got quite a few leaves to vacuum out when I get back from work today.

And the water is clear, even after brushing? You can toss a quarter in the deep end and call heads or tails from the deck?

Just making sure. Don't want you to stop one step from the finish line and have it come back. in a month.

Good call. I’ll check on that this afternoon. Water is really clear. I won’t be able to see if it’s heads or tails but I’ll have one of the kids look. My eyes can’t see that good anymore. If we can’t make our heads or tails do we keep slamming? I know I could see a quarter now but don’t know about what side it’s on. It doesn’t cloud up after brushing but I still have some stains from the water line.

Heads or tails might be too extreme, but seeing a quarter is a must.

In a few days the kids might be able to call heads or tails. Soon you will be able to spot a grain of sand on the floor from thirty feet away. Not kidding. It's a symptom of sparklypoolitis. It takes a couple years to be able to just shrug it off when there's something in the pool, especially just after you put away the vacuum.

Yes I hate having Crud in my pool. I was up at 6am scooping out storm debris from last night. I’m ocd about my pool being clean.

As far as the quarter I could definitely see that in the deep end. I’ll post pictures later today.

Day 9 pics
What do y’all think? Quarter is about 4 ft left of the main drain and also looks like I need to have that repaired also.

Day 10 update
Over night loss = 0
CC = .5

But I still have a couple spots where there’s algae stain on the walls. We’ve scrubbed with the brush every day a few times a day. It’s a really dark almost black looking stain. Should I quit slamming or keep it going until the stains are all gone?

I think you're done. Stains don't count against you. Just be sure they are stains and not black algae.

Try scraping it with your fingernail, as mentioned in that article. That'll tell you if it's black algae. If it's a huge blotch, try setting a Vitamin C tablet on it for a few minutes, or run the tablet across it like chalk. If it's metal stains, it'll lift. There's also a chance that it's coming from behind the plaster from rebar too close to the surface.

The downside to TFP water is that all the imperfections in the finish are very visible.
