Hello, New to pool ownership and to pool care. Took over weekly water balancing and pool care about 8 weeks ago, use Raylor drop kit and use Ornenda LSI app.

I live in western NC foothills. No snow and rarely get I
Ice and does not last more than a day. I leave the pool “open” in the offseason. No cover.

I remove leaves continuously in the fall. Really don’t mind. I have a salt water pool with Jandy salt cell. Appears there is also an erosion feeder for chlorine.

It’s still in the high 70s here. But as the weather gets cooler, I’d like to be prepared.

Can anyone share guidance or direct me on resources on how to balance water in the cooler weather, at what temp does the salt cell stop working and how to utilize the chlorine feeder?

Plus anything else I should know or plan to do for the cold.
I’ve been told my pump also Jandy has freeze protection.

Thank you in advance!

I shut down my SWG at around 52~55°. Then I test just once a week, and use liquid chlorine to restore my target FC7 (also once a week). That’s it.* Come Spring, I exchange a little water to get rid of any excess CH, then restore salt and CYÀ. I’ll give that a few days to stabilize, then turn on the SWG. A month or two later I’ll do my annual filter cleaning. I should clean the filter before all that, but don’t because it’s still too cold out. It’s all pretty easy.

*My pool needs acid year round, but that is all automated, so nothing changes in the winter. It’s probably something you east-coasters don’t have to deal with.

I don’t use tabs. Don’t winterize. Don’t cover.
