Wooohooo! We’re feeling less stress tonight after FINALLY getting our pool repainted in epoxy (our first time DIYing, but second time having the pool epoxied). We elected for a darker blue color than our previous color, and it’s so rich and beautiful. We’ll be filling on Saturday, and my 4 year old absolutely cannot wait.

We’ve got a new sand filter in the driveway waiting to be installed tomorrow (our old one cracked down a seam).

Anyone have any expert tips for the filter swap out, or for refilling? I’ve already perused through “new fill” threads, have all my chems lined up, etc.

Wow....good looking pool! Impressive deck too.

You'll need to order up the FAS-DPD test to manage your FC appropriately. The K-2005 kit is missing this important test. You can get it here--> FAS/DPD Chlorine & CC's test and that will "upgrade" your kit to be the equivalent of the K-2006 which we like.

When filling newly plastered pools we always suggest folks put a sock over the hose end to not mar the new finish. Not sure if that is actually needed for the painted pool but it wouldn't hurt to be safe, right?? We also tell plastered pools to not interrupt the water filling until entirely filled.

Buy #20 specific pool sand, avoiding Quickcrete brand because some folks have found problems with that brand before. Buy the pound amount the filter calls for.
Read this old thread for good info-->. changing sand in a hayward s244t

You'll want to rinse the sand well before putting the filter into "filter" mode.

Where is the fill water coming from? Do you know it's metal free? You'll save yourself alot of potential heartache later by ensuring it is. Wish we had.

Hey Maddie! I actually already have the fas dpd upgrade for my kit...I should update that in my signature eh? I’ll try out the sock method, thank you! The deck is a part of a MASSIVE trex decking remodel that the previous owner did before we moved here. The entire project included three decks, two of them elevated, a ramp, and a staircase. We were certainly thankful for her crazy upgrades, it is beautiful.

were filling using our regular co-op water. Haven’t had any metal issues in the past, but maybe I’ll give them a call or look up components on their website. Thanks for heads up!
