Waxahachie, TX Owner Build - A race to beat the baby!

When I was a kid, we would have used them somehow to make ashtrays. We made ashtrays out of all sorts of stuff and mum and dad pretended to love them. I suppose that might be different nowadays, haha.

You're right! I had forgotten all about that, but I made at least a couple of ash trays growing up too. How funny! I wonder what the go-to craft is for kids these days?

Congratulations Jamie!!! Those look much better!

Thank you! I wholeheartedly agree!

The tiles on a bench, table top, coasters, wind chimes, ..........I am really liking the coaster idea the best!

Oh I am SO stealing this one!

Kim, those are some great ideas. Thanks!

Jamie,

I've read through your experience here (all 34 pages!). I can't wait to see the final pictures. Also, I'm very impressed by you doing all of this pregnant and homeschooling. I toy with making the question of "do I homeschool?" every year at this time so I'm always curious to hear of others doing it and how they do it. I can only get all of this pool stuff done during my baby's afternoon nap and my others are in school so I don't know how you do it. Good luck with the rest of it!

Wow, that's a lot of reading, Karen! I'll be excited to see the end result too... It's not too far off now.

Homeschooling has many benefits, but it can be challenging at times. We think the benefits outweigh the challenges, so it's worth it to persevere. My top three (14-11 yrs) are old enough to do a lot of their work independently once I teach them the concepts, so that has allowed me to be more present for the pool stuff when I need to. The younger ones are 6-2 yrs, with the oldest of these in kindergarten, so it is a little more challenging to keep them occupied, but the big kids take turns helping, and the little ones do play pretty well independently of me. When the kids are in the early years of school, their school day doesn't take that long overall, so if they are diligent they can get it done before lunch, or we have the option of spreading it out if using an afternoon nap time for more uninterrupted attention works better.

Everyone's situation and family dynamic is different, with how the kids' ages fall and how they respond to their schoolwork, so there isn't a one size fits all approach even among those who choose to homeschool. We use an accredited curriculum which helps keep me organized and on track, but not everyone feels the need to. It gives me confidence, though, that if we get through it, we'll have all our bases covered for what they need to study each year.

I hope that helps answer your question, at least a little! :)

Now, for the latest on the pool.... I got a message that they will try to do the pebble tomorrow, although I haven't been told if I'm first or second in line. I replied to the guy that the forecast is for 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms on Friday (the day after pebble) and I wondered if that would adversely affect the acid wash. I haven't heard back yet, but I wanted to hear opinions from experienced people around here. I'd like to be armed with good information in case it's worth telling them I'd prefer to wait. Thank you!

WHEW!!! All Caught up. Might get fired for lack of work today - but I finally made it through your build! I am soooooo excited to see this pool with water and a baby in it!! Can't wait! Love everything about it!

All clear on the pebble for tomorrow morning! There should be no rain, but if there is, they will cancel. Even so, the boss said you can pebble in light rain because they end up rinsing off the plaster anyway. You just don't want heavy rain. And after it gets hard after 3 hours, any rain is ok. But the forecast looks good for tomorrow, so there should be no problems.

Stay tuned...!

A little red wine never hurt any pregnant woman...ask any French woman. And it's a good way to slow those Braxton Hicks contractions....but I only play a doctor on TV....

I'll go for that, Dr. Matt! I bet you're wife appreciates the advice too... She should be betting pretty close, I if remember right.

Tomorrow is 38weeks and Princess ButterBall is measuring 9lbs 3oz on the ultrasound  !!!

So she's started her regimen of spicy breakfast sausage and marathon trampoline jumping on the hopes of inducing labor. Pray for her perineum ;)

(that last statement probably falls under the general category of "too much information" but you ladies understand it better than man ever will)

You're hilarious, Matt! I can relate, all too well! Hopefully the ultrasound is on the high side of the margin of error rather than the low side!

My last one was 9-8 so I feel her pain, so to speak! Here's to healthy babies all around!

Whoah! Yes, I'm sure you DO feel her pain! Mine are all up around 8 lbs 10-14 oz, except for my first girl (baby #3) who was 7 lbs 15 oz, and that was great! With me at only 5'2", I'm reeeally hoping for a sweet, tiny little girl to just pop out this time. Hey... I can always dream! :p

Lol. Wow! You guys are popping out babies bigger than my twins combined! They were 4lbs 5oz and 5lbs 3.6oz at birth. I was on bed rest and in pre-term labor from 21 weeks and hospitalized from 30 weeks until they were born at 34. I can only imagine how awesome it must be to still be upright (or jumping on a trampoline) while that far along. I was huge and horizontal like a beached whale by then! [emoji23]

It is tomorrow!!!!!!!!!! How is the weather?????????? Hopping onto the weather channel for a peek at TX weather........Well it looks good right now so get them out of bed and get them started LOL

Kim

Good morning! I woke up early to the sound of a thunderstorm. The rain has now stopped, but they were originally going to be here by now and there's the possibility of more scattered storms throughout the day, so I don't know what their plan is. I was going to be first in line, so they may just go to the next place if they do anything today. I don't know, but I'm ok not risking it.

Jamie, quick before they start -- double check the rows of accent tiles to be sure no mastic is sticking up -- we found one spot after the plaster was done, oops!

Good idea, Helen! Sorry they missed some of yours. I think I'll use this delay to go out and check and mark the spots that may be an issue.
