Waterfall outlet

Happy Sunday everyone.. Finishing up a awesome gunite pool project and doing the natural stone waterfall we had a 3" trunk spec'ed in the plans for a feed... It's a single stone drop about 4' wide by 4' deep and maybe 20" water drop... My question is
( what is the best way to feed the stone from the trunk?)

Use a 4’ wide sheer descent to spread the water across the stone.
