Water testing issue

FC of 6-8 is where you should have it normally. Stay on the high end of the target to accommodate bather loads and high temps etc. When you go to the FC/CYA Levels there are three categories.. Liquid Chlorine, SWG and SLAM. Click on the category you want to see the chart for. The SLAM FC for a CYA of 50 is 20ppm.. You can easily lose 4 ppm/day in FC at the peak of the summer and Monday is supposed to be over 100F in Sac. So if you are going to be gone for 5 days, you will loose all 20. Is there any way you can have a neighbor throw some Liquid CL in your pool sometime during the week? That would help. Or pick up a cheap solar cover. Lots of stores have those blue bubble solar covers in stock this time of year. That will keep some of the CL from dissipating.

Also, how long do I have to wait to test the water after adding chlorine?
Most chem additions will show up in test after 15-30 min or so if the pool is being circulated to help mixing. The only one that takes a few days is CYA, since it takes longer to dissolve. And make sure you add CL and acid 15 minutes apart.. they don't make a happy reaction together.
