Water temp to high

I have new sensors, the controller works to turn the roof solar flow on and off, but I cannot get the water temp to stabilize. Can I install the air sensor in the pool return pipe to monitor actual the pool temp instead of the ambient air?

Yes. They are the same sensors.

Are you going to move the air temperature wires to the water temperature connection?

What equipment (make/model) are we discussing?

In ground 8,500 gallons. With new sensors, the system turns on the roof solar when the pool temp is 15 degrees below the set point (pool at 94, temp set to 80. I feel if I placed the air sensor in the pipe to measure the water temp coming out of the pool I would get better system control. My system has no water temp connection, just air and pool.
