Water Streak in Resurfaced Pool

We resurfaced our pool in Tropics Blue Stonescapes. The process seemed to go very well. I was here the entire time. Towards the end of the process I noticed one of the bottom returns leaking some water from the shallow to the deep end. There was obviously a darker streak, given it was wet before the pool filled completely. I've not done this before and these guys are "experts" so I said nothing. It's been 4 days and they are coming today for the second water treatment. Ph has been around 6 and have brushed daily and run pump steadily. The streak is still there. My contractor tried to explain why this happened. Frankly I don't care why. But I just want to know if he can get rid of it. He suggested taking Ph way down to get the surface more uniform overall, in addition to helping with this streak. Other than this spot, there is one other that is much darker and larger, but I can live with it. This one I can't live with and don't find acceptable. The picture is enhanced, and in reality is not this stark. Any advice as to whether this can be remedied? How to proceed with my contractor? Thanks, Jeff

I am sorry to be meeting this way. Your returns should have had plugs in them to keep this kind of thing from happening. It will be almost impossible to get rid of totally. The lower ph might do some good. The good thing is that it is cosmetic only.

Welcome to TFP.

How deep is the stained area? Can it be reached?

Rather then acid bath your entire pool it is better, but more work which contractors don't like to do, to sand the area with diamond pads to expose the color underneath. Hopefully the stain is on the surface and not deep. The acid bath is trying to do the same thing in eroding the surface layer of plaster off your entire pool.

It's in the shallow end of the pool. I also don't like the idea of running acid through my pool again. I was told this will have no effect on my surface or equipment. I find that hard to believe

Thanks for your candid reply. Fixing one streak by adding acid to the entire pool for days seems silly and that it could do more long term damage than good. I was there the entire time and can't get over how I saw this and no one else did.

Anyone think I should demand they redo this? I have not paid in full yet. How might I remedy this situation.

Did you have a full chipout of the old plaster before this redo?

I'm not sure how or why, but it seems to be starting to fade. yesterday it was about 10-15% better. He added acid at the end of the day and today its another 10-15% better. Do these things just fade on their own as the surface cures? becomes more uniform?
