I just got a small 12' pool and it has been filled for a month and water is not turning green. Haven't put any chemicals in it yet. It is in a naturally shaded area. Put pool shock in it once just because it was a little cloudy. I am supposed to bring a water sample to the pool store to determine chemical balance. But if it stays clear and algae free. Do I need to worry about chemicals? I run the pump for 5 hours at night. TIA

Clear and algae free water does not mean it is sanitary.

People get sick from drinking clear running stream water because it is not sanitary.

Appreciate the answer! Am still curious though. Is there something dangerous from very minimal consumption that you would get in a pool? Definitely wouldn't rec drinking chlorinated pool water anyway. And people have ponds that they swim in that are untreated Man made or natural. I do have a 6 yr old so I want to be safe for sure. Am in South Florida where I believe they must have a higher degree of chlorination due to more issues with unsanitary tap water on a somewhat regular basis. I can obviously take a water sample in and get the pool store recommendation but just concerned that they obviously want to sell something. But just wonder truth be told are there scenarios where it isn't needed?

Please get a TFTest kit or the Taylor 2006 and test your water. It's easy and gives you peace of mind, and makes sure it's safe to swim in. You'll be glad you did. And stay out of the pool store unless you're buying muriatic acid.

You cannot compare a diverse ecosystem in millions of gallons of water to a couple thousand gallons of stagnant water...

Honestly I'd be more concerned with water staying clear than water that has algae growing in it. What is in the water that not even algae wants to grow in it???

I don't understand what you are trying to figure out.

If you want your 6 year old to be safe then have him enjoy a properly maintained sanitary pool.
