Hi All. I've coming into my fifth year of pool owership and took over most of the maintenance two years ago, so I'm still very much in learning mode. I been bringing in the experts to close the pool and will likely continue this--otherwise I open and maintain things myself with the help of this community (thanks all!). This year all seemed to go well when I opened, but I found out when the pump is off, the water slowly seeps from the filter back to the pool (overnight). So I’m looking for advice to troubleshoot things.
The filter & pump are about 4 feet higher than the surface of the pool. During two days of operation there is no water leaking from any of the pool equipment nor no apparent leaking from any of the pipes. When I turn the pump off and put my ear to things, I can hear water moving slightly...and I assume it's flowing back (down) to the pool. I don’t hear any air sucking in anywhere, but it must be coming in from somewhere (isn’t it that right?). My first guess is the diverter valve. Do they need annual maintenance or would a four year old valve need replacing? Any other areas I should look into?
Thanks much.
Quick Edit.: the diverter valve is a Jandy Side Mount Valve-DE, part number SM20-2.
