Water sample hack

How did you get the pump running with the cover still on? Just took off the areas that have the plugs to take those out?

Yep, that's what I did Monday to get my pump going! Cover will stay on until May 15. Dolphin running happily under the cover also.

Yeah. I popped the shallow end over the weekend and pulled the plugs / reassembled the eyeballs. Then I put the equipment back together. It lasted 2 days and I fired it up last night.

1st test is GREAT !!!!

Had 4ppm leftover. Phew.

CYA was down half to 30
Salt was down 1/3 to 2200.
TA is right where I left it at 70 and I'll drink milk if I need calcium, because the vinyl pool sure doesn't.

It was the least rain year I remember so that kinda lines up with how much I drained.

Man I just couldn’t get the intake port deep down the wall when we first took the cover off. That 48° water just sapped all the strength out of my arm. Some heater action to 60° pulling from the skimmer worked well enough though :D

We got the return plugs off. Those are only mid-forearm or elbow deep. The shoulder-deep intake reaching down though - that was flat out.

Maybe it's just that folks from Detroit are built different. You'd have to freeze my arm in a block of ice for it to hurt...or maybe it's just because Jimmy Hoffa is my uncle...(Maccus Red Fox was a favorite as a kid too...)

I thought plunging into an ice bath was all the rage now with the health-nut types. Something about inflammation, blah, blah, blah … they can all go over and open your pool for ya. Free ice bath.

I fell into my pool last year in March by accident. Water temps in the high 40s. That was miserable. Anyone who would willingly get into an ice bath has a few screws loose.

It was even better because I wrecked my ankle doing it, too. I literally tripped on nothing, twisted the bujeezsus out of my ankle, and fell in the pool. I got a fancy boot and a scooter for a week.

I fell in my pool in January of 2015. It happened to be an early cold winter and the water temp was down to the high 30’s. I was in denim jeans, a long sleeve shirt and a light polo jacket. The day was bright and sunny but in the low 50’s. I was reaching for something in the water near my rock waterfall, lost my balance and fell in. I distinctly remember that there was a delayed saturation of my clothing where I was in the water for a second or two but my body was still dry. Then the cold water made it through and I remember the inspiration gasp reflex that occurs when the face gets hit with cold water. It was a very strange feeling. I was out of the pool in seconds but soaking wet and freezing as I walked to back door and asked my 4 year old at the time to get me a towel. He laughed and ran off. My wife showed up with the towel, tossed it at me and gave me a quite a look of disapproval … I’m very careful around the pool in winters now ….
