New pool owner have a quick question.
Our spa level drops a few inches (4 to 5) over a couple of days when we don’t run the pump at all on the spa.
I asked my builder and his response was “It’s not a major issue the spa check valves are designed to hold only 24 hours”.
Is this legit?
Than you in advance!

No, that is Bull..

Is your spa covered or in a cage? You should refresh your spa water with chlorinated water every day or two at a minimum.

Is your POOL/SPA controlled by automation or manual valves?

I guess I need to give more clarity. I wanted to ensure there weren’t any leaks and left the pump off to the spa to see if the water level dropped a lot. I manually turned off the spa pump for 2 days and the level dropped. It isn’t caged or covered.
So this isn’t correct? Do I have a spa leak?
Thanks in advance.

Your spa return CV may be leaking. If it is it only leaks from the spa treturn to the pool return and is not a big deal.

If you want to determine if your spa is leaking in other areas then put a plug in your spa return to block that water path and see if your spa holds the water.

Post some wider pics of your pool plumbing and equipment.

Describe how your spa spillover works. Does it flow when in POOL mode? Or does your spa spillover only run as scheduled by your automation?

Please create your signature with details of your pool and equipment.

Let me get a pic tomorrow when it’s daylight but I can tell you it flows when in pool mode.
Thanks!

Then we need to identify the pipe that feeds your spa when in POOL mode. That is the pipe that should have the CV.

Is your pump and equipment downhill from the pool? My equipment is below pool level so if i turn off my pump water come back to the pool equipment dropping the spa level just due to gravity.

You have two pipes in your POOL RETURN. I think one is for your POOL RETURN and the other feeds your SPA SPILLOVER when your pool is running.

You have a CV in the SPA SPILLOVER line that may be leaking allowing water to flow from the spa to the pool when the pump is off.

Turn the diverter valve 90 degrees counter clockwise to close the line. That should stop your spa spillover when the in POOL mode. Then turn off your pump for a while and see if your spa level stays the same. I bet it will.

You have not created your signature yet and I would like to know what automation you have. Then we can discuss you scheduling your spa spillover to run once or twice a day and not having it run all the time.
